Back to the court, ‘NBA Playgrounds’ Launching May 9!

I grew up with NBA Jam and other classic less serious sports titles. I long for the days of games where realism isn’t the focus. So when I saw the trailer for NBA Playgrounds, below, I instantly wanted to play it. Luckily, it doesn’t look like I’ll have to wait too much longer!

New Nintendo Uniqlo shirt designs coming soon!

Fresh from Nintendo’s PR email, we were just told about new UNIQLO + Nintendo collection of fan-designed shirts that will be available on May 19. The result of a global design contest, the winners were chosen with the help of Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto and include some great designs featuring Mario, Splatoon, Zelda and other Nintendo brands.
There are 25 total designs that will be available. Men’s and Women’s shirts will be $14.90 and Kids’ shirts will be $9.90. While as a Big & Tall guy, these usually don’t come in my size, the designs chosen are honestly really amazing. You can find more information here, and see the designs in the above video!

Nintendo’s HackerOne program extended to Switch, paying hackers.

Are you a hacker looking for vulnerabilities on the Nintendo Switch? Work with Nintendo and you could net some cold hard cash. Our friends over at NintendoEverything described it perfectly,

In December of last year, Nintendo announced that it teamed up with HackerOne in order to find security flaws and vulnerabilities concerning the 3DS. Anyone can submit a report detailing such flaws, and if Nintendo deems it significant enough, they will pay the person who submitted the report a bounty ranging from $100 to $20,000, depending on various factors.

Last month, Nintendo extended this deal to include Switch security flaws, specifically the following:

  • System vulnerabilities regarding Nintendo Switch
    • Privilege escalation from userland
    • Kernel takeover
    • ARM® TrustZone® takeover
  • Vulnerabilities regarding Nintendo-published applications for Nintendo Switch
    • Userland takeover

It seems like the program is working, since today Nintendo has rewarded three people with a bounty (the sum was not disclosed).

Seems Nintendo is serious about fighting piracy on the Switch, which only means good things.

A first look at Modern Sonic in Sonic Forces!

I’m a bit of a Sonic fan with the games shaping my childhood. We’ve seen a teaser of what is now known as Sonic Forces earlier last year, but now we finally get to see a bit of Modern Sonic’s gameplay. It looks about how we expected but still looks fun. Check out the footage below, and let us know what you expect from Sonic Forces! 18

Sonic blasts through a city under siege by Death Egg Robot sentinels in this first look at Sonic Forces. Coming this Holiday season to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC!

Five things I hate about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

With a game like Breath of the Wild, its hard to really criticize it. There’s so much content that it all just sort of makes this amazing package. That said, when I asked on Twitter & Facebook, you guys seemed to want this. So, without further rambling: Here are five things I hate about Breath of the Wild:

The grass is too nice and makes the game’s framerate drop!

While more of an inconvenience, there are small frame drops in certain areas of the game. All of our testing has shown that each time the frames drop, its in areas with a ton of tall grass.

The Lack of “Music”

This is actually sort of a system-wide issue. The Switch has very minimal music. While Zelda has music, and while present is amazing, gone are the looping tunes that really drill into your head like an earworm. There ARE music tracks however in towns and around stables, so I guess I can’t complain too much.

Rain, rain, go away.

Seriously. Never come back. At first, I loved the rain and weather system. Lightning storms are amazing and it breathes new life into Hyrule. Except for the fact of when it rains, it becomes much, much, much harder to climb. Just…just leave and never come back.

That one gyro ball puzzle.

If you’ve gotten to it, you know the one. That single puzzle broke my love for the game in that play session. It wasn’t the fact that it was badly done, the gyro controls just didn’t cooperate. For a series that has used motion controls in every title since the Wii launch, you’d think they’d have it down.

There’s just so much to do. There’s too much!

Everywhere you go, there’s something to do. So much to see, someone to talk to, a shrine to conquer. It’s a bit overwhelming. Sometimes a guy just wants to kill enemies and save Hyrule, you know? All of this adds to the experience, though.

All of these things add to a much bigger picture. One that I absolutely adore and can’t wait to continue to get lost in. I’m going to have to ask you to please continue to be patient for our Breath of the Wild review. I want to make sure that we truly get as in depth as we can!
