Manami Matsumae makes for a Mega Musical hero!

Manami Matsumae is a legendary composer. You might recognize her music from Mega Man, Shovel Knight, or the new Mighty No. 9. So when we got the chance to ask her some questions, even in Japanese (Wth the help of my friend Andrew and Manami’s co-worker), I jumped at it.

You can hear my favorite track by her above, incidentally.

What We All Need is a Steam Powered Giraffe (Exclusive Interview!)

It’s no secret that we love Steam Powered Giraffe here at Pixlbot, so when we got the chance to talk to the minds behind the bots at Midwest Media Expo 2015, we took it. We sit down and talk about SteamWorld Heist, their upcoming album Vice Quadrant, and more!

Credit to GeekShot Photography for the images used in this interview! They take great photos of the band, and deserve a trip over to their website!

Time Crash at Midwest Media Expo 2015

At Midwest Media Expo, we were treated to see a wonderful band that really stood out to us. They were part of the concert we saw following the Harp Twins and before Steam Powered Giraffe. Time Crash is comprised of Ronen Kohn on vocals and guitar, Dave Kitsberg on his custom built GuiTARDIS and vocals, Michael Fye on bass and vocals, Andrew Rice on drums, and Christopher Rice on Steel Guitar/Tricone. Inspired by Doctor Who, this group rocked out Midwest Media Expo! The energy they displayed in their show was phenomenal and really showed they loved what they played. They encouraged the crowd to come in front of the stage and enjoy the show and even did a very energetic cover of “500 Miles” which the crowd was really into. During the concert we caught on Friday, they were joined by Matt Sernaker of Random Gibberish, and they also had the pleasure of being joined by Ellen McLain (voice of GlaDOS) to perform “Still Alive” during their concert on Saturday. Time Crash has already released an EP called Little Amelia and their full-length album REGENERATION. Continue reading…

Image & Form Joins Forces with Steam Powered Giraffe!

Yes, the rumors have been true: Steam Powered Giraffe is working on the soundtrack for Image & Form’s anticipated multi-platform space strategy adventure SteamWorld Heist, due in spring 2015. The quirky San Diego-based band (that just so happens to feature humans parading as antique singing automatons) will not only make all the songs and in-game music forSteamWorld Heist, but will also be featured in the game as a troupe that Captain Piper and her crew encounter in bars while recruiting fighters. Image & Form CEO Brjann Sigurgeirsson is happy: “A SteamWorld game about steam-powered robots featuring real-world steam-powered robots. It’s perfect!”

Random Gibberish (Strikes again!)

Random Gibberish returned to Detroit for another stop in Detroit on their 10th Anniversary Tour! The band is based out of San Diego and mixes songs inspired by comic books, movies, and television so there is a little something for everyone. Featuring Matt Sernaker on piano and vocals, Erin Hatch on vocals, Jon St John playing the drums, Tom Wayland on guitar, and Kroze; this group was opening for Steam Powered Giraffe on Friday Night.

They featured songs from their newly released albums “Octopuses Stand In Our Way!” and “More Juice” which were available for purchase after shows and during their autograph sessions where you could meet the guys.

From “Well Excuse Me” a song about The Zelda Cartoon, to a song about The Neverending Story in “Bastian and Atreyu”, to damning the Jetsons (and Jane his Wife) in “You Lied To Me”.. their showed played a good range of catchy songs that even us on staff got stuck in our heads.  This group really played up the crowd and got some interactivity from it. They even had their popular Dance Break segment which got the crowd yelling for it!

The group is a lot of fun to see live and is a real class act. If they are ever at a convention or venue that you are at.. give them a shot! It’s a lot of fun and who knows, you might get a song or two stuck in your head!
