Back to the court, ‘NBA Playgrounds’ Launching May 9!

I grew up with NBA Jam and other classic less serious sports titles. I long for the days of games where realism isn’t the focus. So when I saw the trailer for NBA Playgrounds, below, I instantly wanted to play it. Luckily, it doesn’t look like I’ll have to wait too much longer!

MAPLEWOOD, N.J. May 3, 2017 – Independent developer Saber Interactive has confirmed that NBA Playgrounds will be available on May 9 for the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch™ and Windows PC (Steam) as a digital-only release for $19.99. Yes, next week!

Classic NBA arcade action is back! Take your “A” game to the playground and beat the best in high-flying 2-on-2 basketball action. Play as NBA superstars and legends from the past, including Allen Iverson, LeBron James, Steph Curry and Shaquille O’Neal.

  • Up your Game! Features a progression system to unlock real NBA players. Uncover new moves for each player as you upgrade their experience.
  • Tournaments and Online Play. Play solo, with friends in local and online multiplayer, or against the world in online tournaments.
  • Lottery Pick System. The lottery pick system introduces a new twist to the game by rewarding great play with unique rewards.

Star Wars Battlefront II coming later this year!

Now that’s out of the way. It seems EA has learned their mistakes with the first Battlefront deciding to introduce a single player story in the sequel. There’s not a ton of information out right now, but what we know is:

Live the untold Star Wars story of Iden, an elite Stormtrooper, in an original single-player story. Battle on land and in space in an expanded multiplayer experience with iconic heroes and villains, thrilling space battles, and a deep progression and customization system. Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17th.

Just give me dogfights and I’m game.

A first look at Modern Sonic in Sonic Forces!

I’m a bit of a Sonic fan with the games shaping my childhood. We’ve seen a teaser of what is now known as Sonic Forces earlier last year, but now we finally get to see a bit of Modern Sonic’s gameplay. It looks about how we expected but still looks fun. Check out the footage below, and let us know what you expect from Sonic Forces! 18

Xbox Game Pass Brings Unlimited Access to More Than 100 Games

Similar to how Sony has PS Now, Microsoft today announced the “Xbox Game Pass”. This service will allow you to play over 100 titles from the Xbox One and Xbox 360 instantly, almost like a Spotify for Xbox.

We’ve posted the PR below, which has some interesting bits. For the low cost of $9.99 a month, the Xbox library is yours to play around in.

At Xbox, we put gamers at the center of everything we do and remain committed to giving you the freedom to play the games you want, with the friends you want, on the devices you want. This year is shaping up to be an exciting one for gamers. As we prepare to launch Project Scorpio this holiday, bringing the most powerful console ever made to the Xbox One family of devices, we continue to make platform improvements to connect the growing community of players on Xbox Live and add to a robust and diverse portfolio of games across Xbox One and Windows 10.

Today, we’re continuing our commitment to give you more options to diversify and expand your library of games with Xbox Game Pass, a new gaming subscription service coming later this spring. Xbox Game Pass gives you unlimited access to over 100 Xbox One and backward compatible Xbox 360 games – all for $9.99 per month. Click on to read the full PR…

Twitch to sell games, giving percentage of profits to streamers!

Twitch has been a great way for people to watch others play a game, and helping to decide if you should purchase it. Apparently Twitch and game publishers agreed! Starting “soon”, Twitch will allow opt-in for partnered streamers to sell copies of the game that they’re streaming.

You can find the entire Q&A below the cut, but the part I’m most curious about is this:

Q. If I’m a non partnered streamer, can viewers buy games from my channel page?

A. An offer to buy a game or in game content will appear on all streamer channel pages when a game is being played that is offered for sale by Twitch. Only partnered streamers will be eligible to earn revenue through this program.

So basically, if you’re not partnered with Twitch, prepare to make them money regardless!

Microsoft exclusive Scalebound no longer in development.

It’s always a sad day to see a game that you were looking forward to get canceled. Sadly, Platinum Games’ Scalebound, previously announced exclusively for Xbox One and PC has been the latest to fall victim to this fate. Microsoft today confirmed:

“After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for Scalebound,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Polygon. “We’re working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including Halo Wars 2, Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves and other great experiences.”

Scalebound genuinely looked interesting, and we had seen gameplay as recently as E3 2016. It’s strange and somewhat disheartening for Xbox One owners, and I hope we see hints of Scalebound’s mechanics in the future.

Curious about Scalebound? Check out the gameplay from E3 2016 below the cut!  Continue reading…

Microsoft apparently bringing “Game mode” To Windows PCs, works similar to Xbox One hardware.

According to Windows Central;

“Microsoft is working on a brand new “Game Mode” feature for Windows 10 that will enhance the PC gaming experience by minimizing resources used by running apps to almost nothing and allocating freed up resources to the game, making it run faster, better and smoother overall.”

While the details are currently scarce, Windows Central goes on to say that their sources state that it will “works similarly to how Xbox One handles running a game. Xbox OS, when a game is launched, will allocate resources to make sure the game is running the best it possibly can.” Meaning that the system will allocate resources specifically to playing games. A weird statement, and more confusing than anything else. I would love to see Microsoft comment on this soon.

Master the art of destruction in Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition

PSX held many mysteries, including what Gearbox was up to. Turns out they’re working with People Can Fly to publish a new Bulletstorm title! All the info is below, but I can’t wait if nothing else to hear Jon St. John rock it as Duke Nukem. We have a bit of a soft spot for Mr. St. John. (I wonder why?)

Frisco, Texas – December 1, 2016 – People Can Fly and Gearbox Publishing are pleased to announce Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition as the critically-acclaimed shooter comes to PlayStation®4, Xbox One, and PC on April 7, 2017 in stunning ultra-high resolutions. Updated with hi-res textures, increased polygon counts, sterling audio, smoother framerates, and running in up to 4K resolution on PC and PS4 Pro, this upgraded version of the game comes with all of the previously-released DLC along with all-new content. Also for the first time ever, players who pre-order the game will get the chance to play as the iconic Duke Nukem in Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition. Featuring full voice over from the voice of Duke, this feature will replace main character Grayson Hunt with Duke Nukem and provide a never-before-seen experience to fans.

“We are thrilled to be working with People Can Fly to bring Bulletstorm to new audiences and platforms,” said Steve Gibson, Head of Gearbox Publishing. “Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition takes a critically-acclaimed game and adds so much to it with some killer new content, including all the separate add-on packs, and kicking up the presentation to a level that wasn’t possible with technology before. We hope fans of the franchise, both new and old, are going to love this.” Click on to read the full PR…

Fluddy likes 2015: Transformers Devastation

Growing up, I didn’t really watch Transformers all that much. Mostly because the series was on it’s way out pretty much by the time I had a TV to watch things with. That didn’t really stop me from thinking the designs and toys were cool back then, because I remember asking for toys I saw in stores. (Which I received…bootleg super breakable versions of that cut into my thumbs. Fun!)

Then more modern-ish shows based on the series starting coming out and by then all I really cared about was Toonami’s other shows. Aside from making fun of the Bay movies like everyone else, this is my history with Transformers. It ain’t much, I know. But you know something I do have a greater history with? Platinum Games.
